Old homes have likely had at least a handful of big plumbing repairs undertaken over the decades, and if the previous owners weren’t willing to invest in an experienced plumber, there’s a chance your plumbing systems may be in not-so-great shape. 

Broken or cracked sewer lines. Sewer lines are buried so they’re out of sight, out of mind, that is until they fail and leak foul smelling sewage into your yard. Sewer lines can crack or break due to tree roots growing through them, corrosion, or the lines shifting in the ground over the years. 

Unreliable drains. Decades of food scraps, soap scum, hair, and other debris that gets flushed down the trains will definitely take a toll. If the previous owners weren’t diligent about de-clogging the drains you’ll notice water back up in the sinks and the bathtub, or you may smell faint, unpleasant odors coming from the drains.
