Your Guide To Cabinet Types From A NJ Kitchen Wholesaler

Buying kitchen cabinets may seem straightforward, but there are a wide range of options out there that offer different functionality as well as style. Here is a quick guide from the team at our kitchen wholesaler.

  • Base cabinets: These come in standard sizes of 24 inches deep and 36 inches tall and are designed to rest on top of a 4-inch recessed riser/toe kick with your countertop above. As standard-size options, they offer the best value for money.
  • Wall cabinets: These sit above the countertop and are usually the same size as your base cabinets. You can also find models that are between 12 and 17 inches deep. Again, because these units are standard size, they are the most affordable.
  • Tall cabinets: These are your broom storage and pantry units and are usually 83.5 inches high. These are another budget-friendly option, as they are made to standard sizes.
  • Specialty cabinets: These cabinets are designed for specific types of storage or spaces, and include cornet cabinets, fronts for sinks and cooktops, suspended units, bottle racks, and appliance cabinets.
  • Semi-custom cabinets: Cabinets in these ranges have additional functionality, style and material options and are often a bit more expensive than standard units. These are ideal if you want non-standard height, size or depth, or a more unique style.
  • Custom cabinets: Here the cabinets are made to your exact specifications, so they are usually the most expensive option. They offer the most style, function and material diversity and are absolutely unique to your space. Here, you can get as creative as you want with your kitchen design – providing you have the budget.

How to Make your Kitchen Remodel Eco-Friendly

Environmentally-friendly remodels are a huge trend at the moment for homeowners who want to update their kitchens and also reap the benefits of a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Here are some tips from wholesale suppliers of granite and other kitchen countertops on how to achieve a green kitchen.

  • Recycled and earth-friendly countertops: There are plenty of sustainable materials available for your countertops, from recycled countertops (try IceStone, Eco by Consentino, Durat or Grenite), local wholesale granite countertops and eco-friendly laminates from leading brands to simply re-purposing the countertops you already have.
  • Sustainable cabinets: Recycling is a great option here, as many people upgrading their kitchens are happy to sell off their cabinetry for much less than what you’d pay in-store. Otherwise, look for formaldehyde-free woods, solid wood (sourced as locally as possible), recycled or reclaimed wood and FSC-certified cabinets.
  • Energy efficiency: Appliances are one of the most satisfying upgrades you can make for your kitchen, making it easier to get those dirty jobs done – unfortunately, they also use a huge amount of energy and can account for 10% of your home’s energy bill! Energy efficient appliances are very high-tech and far more affordable than you think, delivering great results while costing you – and the planet – less in the long run.
  • Water efficiency: Most people have bought into energy-efficient appliances, but what about water use? The right low-flow faucets can deliver the pressure you want but use 30% of the water a regular faucet would use – and in a kitchen, that adds up.

7 Of The Best Kitchen Remodeling Tips

  1. Take practical steps: Everyone uses a kitchen differently, so think about how you use it before you sign off on your design. Good ideas include locating your plates and cups closer to the dishwasher to make unloading easy, or ensuring that you can reach your fridge easily from your cooktop and oven.
  2. Space out: Planning your kitchen is about maximizing space for the best function. When designing your space, keep paths through the kitchen at 36 inches wide or more, and paths within the cooking zone at 42 inches for a one-cook kitchen and 48 inches for a two-cook kitchen.
  3. Manage traffic: If you have children, you want to keep them away from the cooking and preparation surfaces as much as possible, so avoid having your main route through the kitchen (from room to room, or to the fridge or table, for example) go past the cooktop. If you have space, a kitchen island can be a useful barrier as well as a great gathering place for your kids.
  4. Landing space: Cooktops are busy spaces, and they need the right amount of room for you to be able to use them properly. Rather than placing your cooktop in a corner, place it where there is at least 15 inches of countertop between it and the fridge or wall.
  5. Pot-filler: If you love entertaining but hate lugging a pot of water from the sink to the stove, a pot-filler is a great option. This is a swing-out tap that fills the pot right by the stove. It’s also useful for filling kettles and prepping veggies.
  6. Bin space: Install a bin in a cupboard directly below where you prep your food for easy access. Other good spots for bins include by the dishwasher or sink. If you recycle, it’s a good idea to create designated spaces for different bins so that they are tucked out of the way.
  7. Outlets: There is no kitchen that is more difficult to use than one with too few outlets! In addition to outlets for each of your appliances – don’t forget countertop appliances! – you’ll need additional outlets for appliance that aren’t always in use, as well as for food preparation areas and for additional use, like charging your phone or plugging in a TV.

Why Granite Is Still The Best Kitchen Countertop

Why granite is still the best kitchen countertop
There are a wide range of materials available for countertops, from laminate and wood to marble, quartz and concrete. However, one material still stands above the rest – granite. Here’s why granite kitchen countertops are still king, from your plumbing wholesaler in New Jersey.
  • It’s durable and low maintenance: Granite is a natural rock with a holocrystalline structure – one where the crystals grow into each other and interlock, rather than forming independently. This structure makes the stone incredibly strong and hardwearing – perfect for kitchen work surfaces. It won’t crack, chip or scratch easily, and it’s very hygienic. This means that it’s very difficult to damage and won’t require much maintenance other than a regular clean with mild detergent.
  • Endless design options: Granite comes in a huge range of colors and textures according to the crystals within it. It can have a uniform look or distinct pattern, it comes in blacks, greys and browns as well as reds, blues and greens, and it can be cut and edged to match the look you’re going for. There are also granites rich in mica, which give them a glittery look as they are highly reflective.
  • It’s affordable: In terms of value for money, granite is the best option on the market because it simply lasts so long, is so easy to care for and so resistant to damage. Installation is quick and granite is ordered to exactly fit your kitchen, so joins are minimal. Costs can vary according to the type of granite you choose, but there’s always an attractive option for every price range.
