NOx Emissions and Boilers – What You Need To Know

Boilers are vital parts of heating systems in homes, businesses and industry, and it’s important to ensure that they are operating safely for the health of our families, co-workers and the environment. One of the topics that frequently come up is NOx emissions, so here’s a quick guide to what this is all about.

What are NOx emissions?

NOx is a term that is used to refer to nitrogen oxides, gasses that are created during the combustion process when nitrogen in the fuel that boilers use comes into contact with oxygen in the air. The amount of NOx emissions formed in this process is affected by a variety of factors, including the amount of nitrogen in the fuel, flame temperature, combustion air temperature and excess air levels. These emissions aren’t just coming from boilers, but also from vehicles and stationary engines.

Why do NOx emissions matter?

These emissions fall into the category of greenhouse gasses that have a severe effect on health and the environment. Nitrous oxide is a contributor to the breakdown of the ozone layer and 298 times worse than CObecause it takes much longer to break down, while nitrogen oxide is a major pollutant and a component of smog, irritating the eyes and lungs.

In essence, reducing NOx emissions into the atmosphere is an effective way to reduce a wide range of health and environmental problems, from acid rain and global warming, to water quality deterioration and breathing problems.

Is my boiler reducing NOx emissions?

Through federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), state environmental agencies, and various laws like The Clean Air Act, NOx emissions have been effectively reduced since the 1970s. Investing in modern boilers, especially those with high-efficiency ratings and an AFUE of 90-98.5% is especially important in the fight for clean, healthy air.

Signs That You Need A New Commercial Or Residential Boiler- Fast

A working boiler is an essential part of a functioning home and many commercial properties, and when they finally give up for good, it results in a massive inconvenience – especially in the middle of winter. Here are some signs to watch for, that indicate that now is a good time to invest in boiler replacement services.

  1. A yellow flame: Your boiler’s flame should always be blue in color, as a yellow flame indicated that it isn’t burning fuel properly. This is a sign of serious energy inefficiencies that can cause your energy bill to be much higher than it should be, but more importantly, it can be a sign that it’s letting off dangerous carbon monoxide gas into your home or building.
  2. Repairs are more frequent and more expensive: If you are finding that you need to keep resetting or topping up the pressure in your boiler, it could be about to quit. Mounting repair bills can also make investing in a new boiler a more financially viable and reliable choice.
  3. Parts are more difficult to source: If your boiler repair partner is telling you that it’s becoming more difficult to find replacement parts to keep your boilers working, this can cause your maintenance costs to go up. Sub-standard parts can compromise the boiler’s performance, and you can easily be left without a functioning boiler for weeks while the right parts are found. This can also have a knock-on effect on your premiums.
  4. Your boiler’s efficiency rating is low: Boiler efficiency is measured by its AFUE ratio, which indicates how much of the energy in the fuel it uses is consumed by the boiler. A rating of 56-70% AFUE is an indication of a low efficiency boiler, and if your boiler falls in this range it means that it’s wasting a huge amount of fuel to meet your heating requirements. High-efficiency boilers have an AFUE of 90-98.5%.
  5. Your boiler is very old: Boilers are designed to last a long time, but even the best boilers will start to fail when they are 10-15 years old. Warning signs like noise, leaks, knocking sounds, slow heating, spikes in energy bills, and more frequent repairs are signs that it’s reaching the end of its lifespan. Boilers this old will also be using old systems that can’t match the energy efficiency of modern heating systems.

How To Prevent Carbon Monoxide Leaks From Your Furnace

As winter moves into full swing, we all turn to our furnaces to keep us warm – but these same furnaces can be at risk of leaking carbon monoxide, a dangerous gas that carries serious health risks – including death – if inhaled. Here’s how to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and keep your family safe, from our plumbing supply company in New Jersey.

  • Maintain your furnace: Carbon monoxide is only emitted from your furnace when it is not burning its fuel (gas, oil or wood) properly, or when vents are clogged or damaged. It’s important to have your furnace checked twice a year by professionals who will carry out a range of tests to see if there are any issues.
  • Install detectors – and test them: Place a carbon monoxide detector in each room of your home, as this will alert you with an alarm if high levels of the gas are present. These alarms should have a “Test” button that will tell you if it has enough power to operate or if the batteries need replacing. As with your furnace, these should be tested twice a year.
  • Replace your old furnace: If your furnace is over 15 years old, the risks of carbon monoxide leaks is higher simply due to age and wear, so it’s a good idea to start shopping for a replacement rather than waiting on a problem to occur. While this is a large initial expense, it will pay off in the long-term – not only will your new furnace be safer, it will also be more energy-efficient, reducing your energy bills for many years to come.
  • Know the symptoms: If you do have a leak, knowing the symptoms of poisoning is crucial. These include a dull headache, feeling weak, dizziness and nausea. Advanced symptoms include shortness of breath, confusion, blurred vision and loss of consciousness. If any of these symptoms are present, it’s important to turn off your heating and get the affected person out into fresh air and to a doctor.

Tips For Lowering Your Heating Bill This Winter

Each winter, home heating bills take a big bite out of household budgets, but there are ways that homeowners can reduce this amount through affordable long and short-term fixes. Here are the best tips from NJ’s home heating specialists:

  1. Replace worn weather stripping: Worn caulking and sealing around windows and doors cost homes between 7-12% of their heating, and the chilly air that they let in are often the reason behind cranking up the furnace even higher. Furnaces on a thermostat will do this automatically, so you may not even be aware of how hard it’s working to maintain a cozy temperature. Replacing these seals is quick and affordable, and can easily be done by a handyman or even DIY.
  2. Snuggle up: These days, it’s almost second nature to keep your home so warm that all you require is a light top or thin sweater when you’re inside – but this is an easy way for your bill to get out of control. One of the biggest differences you can make is to lower your thermostat to the recommended 68° in the daytime and 55° at night, and cuddle up in a thick sweater, socks and a blanket. Just by lowering the temperature at night, you can save around 10% on your annual bill!
  3. Maintain your furnace: A clear, unblocked furnace isn’t just safer for your home – it’s more reliable and ensures that it works at its highest efficiency. Check your filter each month and replace it when dirty. If you notice other issues with your furnace, call in the professionals to take a look.
  4. Insulation: Homes are not very energy-efficient structures, and when there’s no insulation, heat will leak right out of your roof, windows and even electrical outlets. Insulation is inexpensive, and you’ll quickly get a return on your investment once it’s installed, as your furnace won’t have to work as hard to keep you warm. The best place to start with insulation is foam weather stripping around your windows and doors.

Don't Let The Stack Effect Increase Your Heating Bills This Winter

As the cold weather sets in, homeowners turn to their furnaces to keep warm. If you are finding yourself turning your heat up higher than your neighbors, or that you just can’t seem to keep your home properly warm, it may not be your furnace’s fault – it could be the result of the stack effect. Find out what this is all about from our HVAC system specialists.

What is the stack effect?

This is an effect that occurs in two-story or higher homes when the outside temperature is lower than the indoor temperature, resulting in an effect where the structure of the building itself acts like a giant chimney and fennels heat up and out of your home.

Cold air – especially New Jersey winter air – is substantially denser than the warm air that your furnace is producing. This cold air enters your home at its base, pushing the warm air up towards the roof and, eventually, out of it. This actually creates a circular system that then drives more air into your home from below, intensifying the draft.

What is the result?

Not only does this mean your home is losing hot air quickly, making your furnace work harder and driving up your energy bill, the effect can also damage your home’s structure. Updrafts can become very strong (it’s why revolving doors were invented for skyscrapers!) and put pressure on fine cracks, as well as weaknesses in your masonry and weather proofing. These cracks make your home even more vulnerable to cold air entering the structure, making your heating problem worse over time.

How to prevent the stack effect

The simplest and easiest way to prevent this issue is by insulating your home properly. While it is important to extend this insulation to your basement, it is actually your ceiling insulation that is most important in preventing this effect – if the warm air can’t rise up out of the house, the cold air can’t enter. It’s best to check your insulation barrier between your top floor and your roof each year and fix any air leaks or degrading insulation for a more stable and energy-efficient home climate.

Your Fall Home Heating Checklist

Fall is here and that means that it’s time to get your home ready for the coming winter! Here are tips from our NJ plumbing supply company on making sure your home’s heating system is in good shape.

  • Seal your home using exterior caulk: An inexpensive and effective fix, exterior caulk is ideal for sealing cracks in your home’s window and door frames, between trim and sliding, and where your pipes and wires enter your home. These cracks let in cold and moisture, so sealing them up preserves the condition of your home, keeps you warm and reduces energy bills.
  • Service your furnace: You’re going to want your furnace working well when the snow hits, so take the time to have it professionally serviced, repaired or replaced if needed. The fall is a slower time for furnace repairs, so don’t wait for winter when their services are in high demand.
  • Check out your fireplace: A fire burning in the hearth is a cozy and wonderful winter experience – but only if your fireplace is in good shape. Use a flashlight to check for any chimney blockages, check the firebox for damaged or missing brick or mortar and get the professionals in for a flue sweep every second year.
  • Roof inspection: The condition of your roof is pivotal to the warmth of your home, from preventing leaks to trapping warm air from leaving the structure. A roof inspection is an affordable and safe way to have your structure properly checked for loose tiles, worn insulation and leaks.

5 Signs You Need A New Hot Water Heater

Water heaters are one of the most essential plumbing fixtures in our homes, delivering piping hot water to our showers, baths, and faucets. So, when they fail, they can cause serious chaos in our daily lives! Here are signs to watch out for so that you can get your hot water heater repaired or replaced in time:
  1. Age: When it comes to hot water heaters, age isn’t just a number. Generally, they should be replaced after 10 years, as equipment older than that is more likely to fail or need significant repairs. Often, these heaters are also far less energy efficient, costing you a lot more than they should on your monthly energy bill. You can determine the age of your hot water heater by looking at the unit’s serial code. The letter represents the month of the year (A is January, B is February, etc.) and the next two numbers are the last two numbers are the year.
  2. Leaks: Check around your hot water heater for moisture or pools of water, as these indicate a leak. Many leaks can simply be repaired but older units are more vulnerable to fractures in the tank, as they have been worn out over the years by the expansion and contraction caused by the heating process.
  3. Running out of hot water: This can be the result of two issues:
i.        Either that your tanked hot water heater isn’t big enough to provide enough hot water to meet the demands of your home, or
ii.        Sediment has built up inside the tank, reducing its capacity.
A clean-out may be sufficient, but often this is a sign that your heater itself is deteriorating.
  1. Noises: As sediment builds up in your tank, it hardens and reduces the hot water capacity as well as compromising your heater’s efficiency. This hardened sediment can result in banging and rumbling noises from your heater itself as it tries to heat up.
  2. Discoloration: Rust-colored water from your hot-water taps (and not your cold-water taps) usually means that your water heater is rusting inside and may need replacing soon, before it starts to leak. If you have rust-colored water coming from your cold-water pipes as well, this may indicate that your pipes are rusting instead.

7 Of The Best Kitchen Remodeling Tips

  1. Take practical steps: Everyone uses a kitchen differently, so think about how you use it before you sign off on your design. Good ideas include locating your plates and cups closer to the dishwasher to make unloading easy, or ensuring that you can reach your fridge easily from your cooktop and oven.
  2. Space out: Planning your kitchen is about maximizing space for the best function. When designing your space, keep paths through the kitchen at 36 inches wide or more, and paths within the cooking zone at 42 inches for a one-cook kitchen and 48 inches for a two-cook kitchen.
  3. Manage traffic: If you have children, you want to keep them away from the cooking and preparation surfaces as much as possible, so avoid having your main route through the kitchen (from room to room, or to the fridge or table, for example) go past the cooktop. If you have space, a kitchen island can be a useful barrier as well as a great gathering place for your kids.
  4. Landing space: Cooktops are busy spaces, and they need the right amount of room for you to be able to use them properly. Rather than placing your cooktop in a corner, place it where there is at least 15 inches of countertop between it and the fridge or wall.
  5. Pot-filler: If you love entertaining but hate lugging a pot of water from the sink to the stove, a pot-filler is a great option. This is a swing-out tap that fills the pot right by the stove. It’s also useful for filling kettles and prepping veggies.
  6. Bin space: Install a bin in a cupboard directly below where you prep your food for easy access. Other good spots for bins include by the dishwasher or sink. If you recycle, it’s a good idea to create designated spaces for different bins so that they are tucked out of the way.
  7. Outlets: There is no kitchen that is more difficult to use than one with too few outlets! In addition to outlets for each of your appliances – don’t forget countertop appliances! – you’ll need additional outlets for appliance that aren’t always in use, as well as for food preparation areas and for additional use, like charging your phone or plugging in a TV.

Common Plumbing Myths Busted By Our Plumbing Supply Company

  1. Off the shelf solutions always work: While some miracle-in-a-bottle plumbing solutions do work, it really depends on the problem. Most of the time, these products treat the symptoms, not the underlying issue, which will only get worse over time.
  2. Leaky taps are normal: In fact, a dripping tap can waste over 2,000 gallons of water a year! That’s a lot of water to waste, and a lot extra to pay on your utilities bill. Usually these issues are fairly simple to fix, so ask your local plumbing supply company for a lasting fix.
  3. Everything can be flushed down a toilet: Clogs in your toilet system are one of the worst things for homeowners to deal with, so it’s best to avoid them. The best way to do that? Don’t flush anything down the toilet other than your human waste and toilet paper. Even items labelled as flushable, like wipes, are often too durable to dissolve properly and move down the sewer line. This is an especially important rule if you have a septic tank.
  4. Putting ice blocks in your garbage disposal sharpens the blades: In reality, garbage disposals don’t have blades. Instead, they have an impeller that has fairly dull edges but effectively grinds away waste when it rotated against the grinder ring. Ice blocks can’t have any effect on this process but, due to their hardness, may actually damage your disposal.
  5. All plumbers can do all plumbing work: When looking for a plumber, it is important to find a reputable  plumbing services provider who can deal with your specific issue. Some plumbers specialize in remodeling services, others in household emergency services, and others in severe drain issues or commercial plumbing. If you are unsure of who to call in your area, speak to the team at Crosstown Plumbing Supply and we will recommend a trusted service provider.

Why Your Air Conditioner Is Constantly Running And What To Do

The hottest, most humid months of summer are here and that means one thing and one thing only – air conditioning. Life would be far more uncomfortable without this technology, but it’s important to keep this hard-working equipment in great shape in order to ensure they run properly. One common issue that can come up this time of year is that they run constantly. Here’s why it’s a problem – and what to do about it.
Firstly, it isn’t normal that your air conditioning system is running non-stop – it’s the result of a problem within the system. And it isn’t just noisy either, it can cost you a lot of money when your energy bill arrives! Common causes of this issue include:
  • Improper air conditioner installation: Badly installed air conditioners often mean equipment has been linked up to the wrong duct size. If the ducts are too big for the unit, your air conditioner will not be able to achieve the right airflow through your home.
  • Air conditioner is too small: In order to keep up with your home’s cooling demands, your air conditioner has to be the right size for the space – not too big, and not too small. Small units will have to work overtime and likely stay running to try keep the home cool. This not only uses a lot of energy, it also means heavy wear-and-tear on the unit, so the likelihood of breakdowns is much higher too.
  • Clogged air filters: Air filters need to be cleaned or replaced according to manufacturer guidelines, which may be up to once a month. Dirty filters restrict air flow, making the equipment work hard and run more often to try cool the air. It also prevents the machine from removing moisture from the air, so it keeps running. This can also make your system overheat and break down.
  • Dirty air conditioner coils: As with the filters, these need to be regularly cleaned and replaced according to manufacturer guidelines, usually on an annual basis. Dust and dirt on these coils reduces the efficiency of the heat transfer process, resulting in poor cooling performance and increased running time. Professional plumbing companies can do this during their annual servicing of the machine.

Is Your Basement Making Your Home Warmer In The Summer?

The summer is in full swing, and for most homeowners this means one thing – cranking up the air conditioning system. However, this can mean a significant increase on your monthly energy bill. There are lots of ways to help combat this, but it means finding the source of the issue – which could be your basement, according to New Jersey HVAC system experts. Here’s why.

The reverse stack effect

Heat always rises because it is lighter than cold air, which is why homeowners need to insulate their ceilings and attics if they want their properties to stay warm through the winter. This is called the Stack Effect.

In summer, however, we want to cool the air with air conditioners, and this denser air drops and can leak out of home through the basement, causing our air conditioners to run at their maximum output to try and maintain a cooler temperature. This is called the Reverse Stack Effect.

This not only means you spend more to run your air conditioner, it also puts a strain on the machine itself that results in higher wear, more repairs and more potential breakdowns.

Seal your basement to keep your home cool and comfortable in summer

Whether you have a finished basement or not, it’s difficult to detect and plug all your air leaks – and even small leaks can result in a big difference in your energy bill. If you are unsure if your basement is properly sealed from air leaks, there are companies that can do a full technical analysis for your property known as an energy audit. The next step is to properly seal all leaks using high quality caulk, closed cell spray foam insulation or traditional insulation, as recommended by professionals.

How To Measure Your Home's Indoor Air Quality

Good air quality indoors is essential to your family’s health and comfort. Here’s some insight from New Jersey air conditioning specialists on how to measure and maintain good quality air within your home.

What is meant by ‘indoor air quality’?

Air pollution can occur anywhere, whether in an industrial environment or inside your apartment or home. These pollutants can irritate the lungs, create unpleasant odors, cause allergic and asthmatic reactions and even cause illness, and if they are originating within your property, they need to be urgently discovered and corrected. Common contaminants in indoor air include mold spores, carbon monoxide, radon, and asbestos.

Over the last few decades, we’ve started building and renovating our homes to seal air in more efficiently to reduce our energy bills and keep our homes properly temperature-controlled though the year. This has decreased ventilation (the flow of air from outdoors through the home) and made it more difficult for indoor pollutants to move out of the home, making indoor air quality checks essential.

Use a VOC sensor to measure indoor air quality

A VOC sensor measures volatile organic compounds in the air, and will pick up even small traces of mold, ketones, unhealthy gasses and other pollutants. This can be done by a professional company that will then run air samples from various areas in your home through advanced laboratory equipment and diagnose any issues.

Air conditioning installation from HVAC specialists in NJ

If you suspect that your air conditioning system is not providing you with high quality air, it’s important that you have it professionally addressed. At Crosstown Plumbing Supply, we have a wide range of high-efficiency central air systems, condensers, dehumidifiers and ductless air conditioners that offer exceptional temperature control and air quality while using minimal energy.

For more information on our air conditioning and HVAC solutions, as well as to have any of your cooling system air questions answered, please visit our website at http://crosstownplumbing.com/ or contact us today.

How To Prevent Mold Growth In Your HVAC System

When humidity is high, your HVAC or air conditioning system can be affected by mold growth. Here’s what to do, from HVAC specialists at our plumbing supply company in New Jersey.
Mold growth is common in HVAC and AC units because moisture can build up inside the system, creating an ideal environment for molds. The circulation of air throughout the home also makes it easier for mold spores to travel into the system as well as spread to other warm, moist rooms in the home, including laundry rooms, basements, bathrooms and kitchens. These molds create a musty, unhealthy environment in the home that can result in breathing problems, allergy issues and an unpleasant, musty smell. Some molds are even highly toxic. This makes it essential that your HVAC system is kept clear and clean throughout the year.
Four steps to take that will keep your HVAC system mold-free
  • Replace the filters: Filters should be replaced regularly to keep your system operating effectively, and wet, dirty filters are often a great environment for mold. While once a year is fine, you should check the filter and clean it monthly, especially in high humidity months.
  • Use a mold inhibitor: There are products made specifically for HVAC units that will help prevent mold growth. Make sure that the inhibitor you are applying is labeled for use by the EPA in HVAC systems, and apply as directed.
  • Use a disinfectant: This will work to kill off any mold inside the HVAC system to prepare it for the mold inhibitor, which will stop future mold growth from occurring. It will also thoroughly clean the system and ensure that it is hygienic. As with the mold inhibitor, you need to choose one labeled for use by the EPA in HVAC systems, and apply as directed.
  • Prevent moisture build-up: Moisture is key to mold growth, so ensuring that it is minimized will help prevent growth. When cleaning your HVAC unit, use an industrial wet vacuum to remove any standing water and dry out the system.
Need to replace your air conditioner and HVAC parts?

Why Granite Is Still The Best Kitchen Countertop

Why granite is still the best kitchen countertop
There are a wide range of materials available for countertops, from laminate and wood to marble, quartz and concrete. However, one material still stands above the rest – granite. Here’s why granite kitchen countertops are still king, from your plumbing wholesaler in New Jersey.
  • It’s durable and low maintenance: Granite is a natural rock with a holocrystalline structure – one where the crystals grow into each other and interlock, rather than forming independently. This structure makes the stone incredibly strong and hardwearing – perfect for kitchen work surfaces. It won’t crack, chip or scratch easily, and it’s very hygienic. This means that it’s very difficult to damage and won’t require much maintenance other than a regular clean with mild detergent.
  • Endless design options: Granite comes in a huge range of colors and textures according to the crystals within it. It can have a uniform look or distinct pattern, it comes in blacks, greys and browns as well as reds, blues and greens, and it can be cut and edged to match the look you’re going for. There are also granites rich in mica, which give them a glittery look as they are highly reflective.
  • It’s affordable: In terms of value for money, granite is the best option on the market because it simply lasts so long, is so easy to care for and so resistant to damage. Installation is quick and granite is ordered to exactly fit your kitchen, so joins are minimal. Costs can vary according to the type of granite you choose, but there’s always an attractive option for every price range.
Remodeling your kitchen? Speak to us about granite countertops at wholesale prices
In addition to our affordable kitchen countertops and fittings, our sales staff are fully trained to assist you with your kitchen remodel itself and, when you purchase any kitchen cabinets line from us, we will come through to your home to measure and design your kitchen for free. 6 Ways To Save Energy With Your HVAC System

Did you know that for most homes, half of the energy bill goes towards heating and cooling? This means that increasing your HVAC system’s efficiency often leads to significant savings, for a positive impact on your bank balance. Here are some of the most effective ways to save energy – and money – from New Jersey’s HVAC and air conditioning system specialists.
  1. Keep up with maintenance: Routine maintenance should be done by professionals on a semi-annual basis, as keeping the system running smoothly ensures optimal performance as well as reduced energy wastage and repairs.
  2. Stay within the right temperature range: Most HVAC systems have an optimal temperature range in which the system produces the best results for the lowest energy usage. Staying within this range will help you save while living in comfort.
  3. Insulate: The better insulated your home, the less heating and cooling it needs, so you make direct savings on your energy bill.
  4. Invest in a programmable thermostat: This helps you save by only heating your home as and when you require it, so that your system doesn’t run the whole day while no one is at home.
  5. Get rid of drafts: This is important for both summer and winter, as your HVAC system will struggle to maintain a constant temperature when air from outside is continually entering the home.
  6. Upgrade your old system: As HVAC systems age and as new technology progresses, so differences in performance and cost are going to become more apparent. If your system is 10 or more years old, it might be time for an upgrade that will save money in the long term. Remember to ask your HVAC company about the latest energy efficient units, and get the right size system for your home in order to maximize benefits. Many of these systems also qualify you for rebates from the State of New Jersey, making them even more budget-friendly.

5 Signs You And Your Home Can Benefit From A Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers work to remove excess water from the air in the environment around them. This moisture can cause a wide range of issues for homeowners if it goes untreated, so if you are experiencing any of these problems, it might be time to invest in an air conditioning systems with a dehumidifier.
  1. Mold: Dark spots on your ceilings, floors, inside cupboards or on your floors and baseboards indicates a mold issue. While professionals can treat the mold, if the excess moisture isn’t removed it will simply grow back. This is a big problem because it can trigger allergies as well as toxic reactions.
  2. Musty smells: Every house smells a little stuffy and musty if it’s been locked up for a long time, but if you notice a smell in general, inside cupboards or after the house has been closed up for a short while, you likely have a moisture problem. If it is not due to a leak, it’s likely due to a lot of moisture in the air, which can be solved with a dehumidifier.
  3. Dampness in your foundation or basement: This can occur seasonally when there is heavy rain or snowmelt, and it’s important that these structural parts of your home are kept dry during this time. Installing a dehumidifier will help prevent cracks, leaking and mold.
  4. Rotting wood: Wooden doors and frames will start decaying if they are exposed to a lot of moisture, even if that moisture is just in the air itself. Repairing and sealing the frames will help, but only a dehumidifier will help remove the source of the problem itself.
  5. You’re struggling to dry clothing: If you hang your washing indoors but are finding that it stays damp for a long time or even develops a musty smell, then excess water in the air is to blame. This is very common during wet seasons or in basements, and can easily be corrected by the installation of a dehumidifier. Not only will it take the excess moisture out of the air itself, it will also remove excess water that evaporates as your laundry dries.

Enhance Your Home Office With A High-Efficiency Air Conditioning System

Home offices are a great asset, but they do need all the essentials if they’re going to become a productive space. High-efficiency air conditioning systems help to create an environment that helps boost productivity, without significantly impacting your energy bill. Here’s how:
  1. Reduced humidity: That sticky, airless feeling you get outdoors in the summer? That’s humidity – and it doesn’t make you want to do anything more than lie down with a cold drink somewhere in the shade. Most air conditioners have a dehumidification setting that takes this excess moisture out of the air without making your space too cold, which helps you stay productive even on the most humid days.
  2. Comfort: The great thing about home offices is that you can set your climate to a temperature and moisture level that suits you, and change it as the season’s progress. You can also set it to kick in before your work day starts and automatically shut off for the evening, keeping your energy bills down.
  3. Silent and efficient: With the right air conditioning system, you should be almost unaware that it’s even there. Modern units are incredibly quiet and unobtrusive, and they use very little electricity to get you great results. With high-efficiency machines, you may also qualify for state rebates in addition to lowering your energy bill.
  4. A better environment: An open window may seem like an effortless solution, but it comes with its own set of issues. From insects and dust flying in, to traffic noise, rain and gusts of wind that blow all your papers off your desk, windows can often cause more issues than they solve. Air conditioners have none of these issues, and with silent, unobtrusive machines on the market with state-of-the-art filters, you’ll have a cleaner, quieter and less chaotic space.
  5. Heat: Many air conditioning systems come with a heat pump feature that allows you to increase the temperature in the colder months, ensuring that your space stays climate controlled regardless of the weather outside.

At Crosstown Plumbing Supply, we can either assist you with choosing a high-efficiency, low maintenance replacement air conditioner or HVAC system (including central heating and air and ductless air conditioning systems). 4 SIGNS YOUR BOILER IS WORKING PERFECTLY

Is your boiler working as well as it should be or should you start thinking about repairing or replacing it? Find out from New Jersey plumbing wholesalers:
  1. Enough hot water when you need it: Your boiler should be able to supply you and your household with enough hot water even during high demand times in the morning and evening. If your boiler has started developing hot water supply issues, it may be clogged with mineral scale deposits or debris, and a professional maintenance service can assist you. If the boiler is in good condition but supply is still too low, it may be time to upgrade to a larger tank or a tankless water heater.
  2. Your energy bills are relatively low: Every household uses a different amount of energy per month, but your bills should stay relatively similar in comparative seasons over the years. If you notice a sudden increase, especially over the winter, it may be due to your boiler, as these systems are responsible for a significant portion of energy usage during this season. It may need professional cleaning, repair and maintenance to restore its efficiency or it may simply be too old to achieve significant energy savings.
  3. You have control: Boilers are responsible for a large portion of your energy bill, so being able to customize its functions to suit your needs is a great way of reducing energy wastage and saving money. In addition to having control over the thermostat, the best boilers also allow you to time the heating to coincide with high demand periods of the day, and reduce temperature and energy use during slower periods.
  4. No leaks: Gas boilers that are old or behind on maintenance can start to leak carbon monoxide due to their inefficiency. Not only is this a sign of a failing boiler, it is also dangerous to the health of anyone in the building, especially in winter when air flow through the property is reduced. Carbon monoxide is responsible for thousands of trips to emergency rooms each year, so it’s best to install a detector and repair or replace your boiler as soon as any issues occur.
Replacement boilers and parts from New Jersey plumbing wholesalers
With over 25 years of experience in the New Jersey area and a dedication to excellent customer service, you’re guaranteed to find a replacement residential or commercial boiler, repair parts and hot water heater systems that work perfectly for your needs – and your budget at Crosstown Plumbing Supply.
